Description
Maryland Currency
June 8, 1780 Maryland “BLACK MONEY” Half Dollar Note
State of Maryland. June 8, 1780. Half a Dollar. “BLACK MONEY” Issue. Conservation. Choice Very Fine.
Fr. MD-106. This note is on the extremely rare June 8, 1780 Revolutionary War period Maryland currency issue known as “Black Money.” This issue being so named due to its thick dark black printed outer border designs. There is some overall conservation inclusive of a deft sealed top centerfold split. This note is well centered on its face and the reverse side clearly shows all of its border designs. Fully signed, by Frederick Green and Thomas Johnson, Jr. in medium brown. This historic “Black Money” issue note has superior eye appeal to the Newman plate illustration for this issue. An important Colonial Currency rarity on the State of Maryland which is absolutely needed by virtually all such collectors.
