Description
Massachusetts Currency
June 18, 1776 One Shilling Three Pence Note
Colony of Massachusetts Bay. June 18, 1776. One Shilling Three Pence. Due Date of June 18, 1778. Extremely Fine.
Fr. MA-197. This scarce, small size typeset note has three huge margins with the top just clearing all of the outer border designs, such that all are clearly visible. The paper is very clean and even in its light circulation, all of the print is dark black and very sharp, thus easy to read. The brown signature of “J Hobart” and serial number add to the eye appeal. The blank reverse is completely clean and free of any distractions. Notes from this issue are very rare in this high quality. To date, there is not even a single example of this denomination recorded as being certified by PMG. The 5th Edition of Newman lists a value of $1,250 in Extremely Fine quality. This note is certainly condition census and among the finest known.
