Description
Pre-Columbian, Peru, Chavin, ca. 1400 BCE - 400 BCE. The ChavÃÂn people showed advanced knowledge in metallurgy, soldering, and temperature control, using early techniques to develop refined gold work. The melting of metal had been discovered at this point and was used as a solder. This exquisite gold roundel ornament depicts rows of camelids. Indeed the Chavin domesticated camelids such as llamas and used them as packing animals, for fiber as well as meat. 3-1/2"D
