Description
Pre-Columbian, Columbia, Sinu, ca. 800CE - 1500CE. Lost wax cast gold finial with three birds standing together on a perch, having long, slightly curved beaks and short fan tails. Attachment socket extending from the rear of the perch. Rich symbolism as sky animals were associated with the celestial sun, moon, and Venus by the ancients of the Americas. Birds were believed to act as messengers between humans and their deities. Most of the celestial deities had winged disguises. Unusual to have a trio of birds. Moreover, the gold shows high karat hues and is nice and hefty. 22 grams to be precise. Fabulous provenance to boot! Custom, museum-quality stand. Miniature size of 1-1/2"L x 1-1/16"W
