Description
A older ceremonial sword of the Shi / Tutsi People residing in east Zaire, near the Tanzania border. Typical form unique Shi sword with straight, heavy sharp double edge blade, with pronounced central rib. The hilt is carved wood and matched the sheath. Blade alone is 27 1/2" long and in sheath 39". Provenance: Charleston SC Private Collection. Ref: Islamic and Native Weapons of Colonial Africa 1800 - 1960 by A. C. Tirri.
