The present vessel was created by the Dogon people, living in the central plateau region of Mali, Western Africa. The spherical terracotta body ends in a high flared pedestal neck with a broad rim. The lower part of the neck as well as the shoulder and body are adorned with a hatched decoration of geometrical forms and lines. Vessels of this kind were used to store liquids.
The vessel is in good condition with signs of wear consistent with age and use. The height measures 32 cm. (tfa)
