Description
A Chinese Da Ya Zhai Plate, late 19/early 20th century, the design made for Qing Empress Dowager Cixi, the characteristic motif consists of scrolling grapevines with blossoms of peonies and magpies perched on a branch against a turquoise ground, with "Da Ya Zhai" or "Studio of the Greater Odes" inscribed in overglaze red on the plate surface, within a small oval cartouche framed by two dragons is "Tiandi yijia chun" or "The Whole World Celebrating as One Family," three auspicious bats on the reverse of the plate, and four character iron red mark, "Yongqing changchun" or "Eternal Prosperity and Enduring Spring" on the base, with tiny chip to rim, approx. 2 1/2 by 24 cm, 1 by 9 1/2 in.
