Dieter Blum’s main body of work is dance photography, which is here devoted to a picture book about the dancer Vladimir Malakhov; the auction record for a Malakhov photograph by Blum is currently set at €5,000

This is a photo book by the German photographer Dieter Blum about the Russian-Austrian dancer, choreographer and ballet director Vladimir Malakhov, published in 2009 as collector’s edition by Tandem Verlag. The book is written in English, a translation book in German, French and Spanish is enclosed. In addition, an original photograph depicting Vladimir Malakhov and Nadia Saidakova performing a dance is part of the book. The book, the translation book and the photograph are stored inside a case with book linen cover. It is the book number 449 of a limited edition of 1500 pieces.



The book is signed on the first page ‘Dieter Blum’ and numbered ‘449/1500’. The photograph is signed lower right in silver colored pen ‘Dieter Blum’ and bears the embossed stamp SKIA Photography. Book and photograph are in very good condition. The case shows slight traces of use. The depiction of the photograph measures 38.5 x 29.5 cm and the sheet 42.7 x 33.6 cm. The total dimensions of the book with the case are 44.5 x 37 x 6.5 cm.



Dieter Blum (b. 1936)

Dieter Blum takes pictures for leading magazines such as Stern, Der Spiegel, Vanity Fair and Time. His favored topics are music, dance and art. He is one of the photographers who did a worldwide Marlboro campaign. He created two large picture books about the Berlin Philharmonics. In addition, he made books about former German chancellor Gerhard Schröder and Austrian actor Karlheinz Böhm’s project in Africa. His main body of work comprises several picture books of dance photography (Vladimir Malakhov, Exstasy I, II and III, Pure Dance, Dance and Eros I and II). His photographs were part of several Germany-wide exhibitions as well as of the Biennale in Venice (2005). He was honored with the Gold and Honorable Award of the International Photo Salon Bordeaux and the Word Press Photo Award. (tm)
