The present print reveals a typical nude photograph by the German photographer Charlotte March. It depicts an athletic man walking on the beach and with his front turned to the sea, so that the contours of his muscular back are clearly visible against the white towel that he holds in his hands. The work was included in March’s book ‘Man Oh Man’ published in 1977.
The print is verso titled, dated and signed with pencil ‘Columbus 1976 Charlotte March’. The work is in very good condition. The image size is 36.2 x 24.7 cm and the sheet measures 47.8 x 37.8 cm.
Charlotte March (1930-2005)
The German photographer Charlotte March was born in Essen in 1929. She studied at the Hamburger Kunstschule from 1950 to 1954, which was followed by a teaching position at the School of Fashion in Hamburg. It was only then, when Charlotte March decided to work as a professional photographer. Her works are therefore deeply influenced by her experiences of the fashion world. March took part in the first two world exhibitions of photography and received an award by the New York ‘Twen’ magazine. Many of her works as well as her estate are now preserved in the Falckenberg collection in Hamburg. (cbo)
