Charlotte March’s works are characterized by a fine play of striking contrasts and the unusual poses of the models. In doing so the artist consequently revolutionized fashion photography of her time; her works fetch up over €3,500 on the international auction market

The present photograph by the German photographer Charlotte March shows a characteristic fashion picture taken in 1981. Depicted are the legs of a model, who is wearing snake high heels and whose legs are painted with a snake pattern. The artist has caused a special contrast through the patterning of the model’s legs and the darker background.



The print is verso titled, dated and signed with pencil ‘Evas Beine 1983 Charlotte March’. The photograph is in very good condition. The photo paper measures 48.3 x 37.1 cm and the size of the image amounts to 36.2 x 24.9 cm.



Charlotte March (1930-2005)

The German photographer Charlotte March was born in Essen in 1929. She studied at the Hamburger Kunstschule from 1950 to 1954, which was followed by a teaching position at the School of Fashion in Hamburg. It was only then, when Charlotte March decided to work as a professional photographer. Her works are therefore deeply influenced by her experiences of the fashion world. March took part in the first two world exhibitions of photography and received an award by the New York ‘Twen’ magazine. Many of her works as well as her estate are now preserved in the Falckenberg collection in Hamburg. (tm)
