On verso inscribed in India ink in another hand ‘JFK, as a senator, tussed a football to his nephew and Robert’s oldest son, Joe.’ and dated ‘1957’
On verso on labels with the handwritten complemented copyright stamp of the photo agency Grazia Neri

To capture human experience in his photographs was the aim of the photojournalist Paul Schutzer; his photographs are rarely offered at international auctions.

As a photojournalist for Life magazine Paul Schutzer photographed many personalities. In this print the later American president John. F. Kennedy and his brother Robert is to see playing football with Robert's son Joe.



The gelatin silver print is inscribed in the lower margin in another hand ‘12’ and verso with india ink ‘JFK, as a senator, tussed a football to his nephew and Robert’s oldest son, Joe.’ as well as ‘1957’. On the reverse there are additionally on labels a handwritten complemented copyright stamp of Life Magazine, a further stamp also of Life Magazine as well as a stamp of the photo agency Grazia Neri. The print is in good condition considering its age; the corners are only minor bumped and there are occasional small pressure marks and handling creases in the surface. The image measures 17.5 x 24 cm, the sheet 20.5 x 25.2 cm.



Paul Schutzer (1930-1967)

At the age of ten years, the New York-born American photographer Paul Schutzer began to photograph his surroundings with a camera he had found in a waste bin. He first studied painting, then law, before he decided to make photography his profession. Since 1956 Schutzer worked for the famous magazine "Life" and photographed personalities such as Eisenhower, Nixon and Kennedy. In 1959 he was awarded seven American photographic awards. The cover "The Blunt Reality of War in Vietnam" of a Life issue in 1965 made him famous. Two years later Paul Schutzer died, when he accompanying Israeli troops as a photojournalist in the Six-Day War. (fea)
