A finely engraved wine-bowl of Persian crafts of the late Safavid period
This Safavid wine-bowl from the 17./18. century from Persia is crafted of tinned copper. The bowl is of flat, rounded shape and has got a slightly outward arched rim. In the upper third is a surrounding band, which has got engraved cartridges with animal depictions, arabesks and the inscription of name of the owner ‘Muhammad Quli‘. The Safavids, a royal dynasty from Ardabil, rained in Persia from 1501 until 1722 and they established the Shiite Islam as a state religion. The reign of the Safavids is a period of great artistic florescence.
The bowl is in good age-according condition with old repairs and partly nudged tinning. The opening is 15.3 cm in diameter and the bowl is 9.2 cm in height. (tm)
