The Arabic text in jali thuluth translates as ‘Truly, upon the friends of Allah there will be no fear nor shall they grieve’ (Quran 10:62) and it was published by Farhangi huner in Esfahan. The calligraphy is executed in fine ink and gouache painting in green and orange on a darker background. Fine floral patterns with gold heightening embellish the calligraphy in addition. As a master of Persian calligraphy, Ali Farzaneh belongs next to e.g. Akhavein, Keikhosro Khorush and Gholamhossein Amirkhan to one of the most prolific contemporary calligraphers of the Iran.



The calligraphy is signed and dated (1377 shemsi) by the artist. The sheet is laid down on cardboard and mounted on the upper edge reversible with adhesive stripe under a mat. The work is in very good condition, only the frame shows minimal traces of wear. The depiction measures 16.5 x 29.5 cm and the sheet 20.5 x 33.2 cm. The total dimensions, including the frame, are 46.5 x 57.6 cm.

Ali Farzaneh is a celebrated Esfahan-based calligrapher, who was trained under the famous Habibullah Faza’ill. His works were exhibited in Dubai (2001), Baku (2004) and Kuala Lumpur (2006). (tm)
