A HAND WROUGHT MENORAH BY CARL POUL PETERSON. Canada, c.1950. Hand wrought in modernist Danish style. Carl Poul Petersen was a master gold and silversmith. He trained with Georg Jensen and married Jensen's daughter, Inger. The couple immigrated to Canada in 1929. Petersen was a designer for Birks in the 1930’s, before establishing his own studio in Montreal in 1944. The patronage of the Bronfman family helped him establish the business. Marked: On the base with impressed block letters, "Petersen, Hand Made, Sterling". Makers' mark "PP" to the right of the notation and a "C" with a stylized boat, the marks in use at his studio, from 1944-76.
