Collected by the late Baroness Leona Bothmer. A Hungarian Baroness born in 1923, she and her family fled from their Hungarian family castle on horseback with their remaining 25 horses trailing behind them in 1945. They were welcomed by the American forces located near Munich Germany. The Baroness had her pet Doberman Pincer placed across her saddle to detect German and Russian soldiers. Baroness Leona was an avid horse woman and began an R&R retreat for American soldiers where they could learn to ride and get a break from the war. After the war she moved to New York City where she became a stewardess for Pan American. During this period of world travel she became a serious animal lover and collector of various artifacts from around the world. . In her last will and testament she left all of these African and other artifacts were then left to her beloved step son Rick Smith. Original felt bottom.
