The canine teeth of hunted animals be used for the popular costume jewelry
This set of traditional jewelry was made in the mid-20th century and shows a particularly beautiful version of the popular costume jewelry. ‘Grandeln’ are hunting trophies: deer teeth, which the hunter takes from the ivories of the hunted animal. The long earrings made of gold each carry as beginning and the end one ‘Grandel’ with a slight brownish tinge. The gold filigree elaboration of the earrings is gemmed with emeralds and diamonds of different sizes. The pendant is in a similar presentation, presents two teeth, which are crowned by a golden foliage with rubies, emeralds and diamonds. On each ivory is hanging an oak branch.
Since the end of the 19th century hunting jewelry and traditional jewelry became more and more known and popular. Also in connection with the country style in the fashion world this jewelry was more often supported.
The set is hallmarked on the back of the earrings with ‘585’ and ‘G.F.’ as well as the pendant. It is in very good condition with hardly any signs of age and wear. The earrings measure about 5.5 cm in length and the pendant approximately 5 cm. The total weight is about 10.7 grams.
