Magnetic Detector by Marconi's Wireless Telegraph Co., 1908
Serial no. 1876, tested by HMS Vernon; solid teak case, ebonite wire reels, brass fittings, clockwork motor to drive an iron wire loop. With lid. – The Marconi magnetic detector is an early radio wave detector to receive Morse code. Between 1902 and 1912 it was widely used on ships. Also it was installed at the RMS Titanic. On 15 April 1912 the apparatus alerted the world to Titanic's plight and saved the lifes of more than 700 people.
