12mo, rebound in full black cloth with dark purple decorative floral cloth pastedowns to covers. First edition, first issue with the six suppressed poems. Baudelaire was prosecuted and fined for offending public morals on August 20, 1857. Following the judgement, the publisher of this work was ordered to remove six poems that do not appear in later printings. Light wear to boards; lacking original frontispiece; reproduction photograph of Baudelaire tipped to front pastedown and bookplate of Gabrielis Nuncii tipped to rear pastedown; marginalia in blue ink affecting 14 pages.
