Description
A framed, hand-painted production cel depicting Mowgli holding a torch and clasping the fur on the chin of the tiger Shere Khan. The cel was created for the production of the 1976 television special "Mowgli's Brothers," directed by the animator Chuck Jones (American, 1912-2002). The frame contains two sheets of cellophane, with the characters painted on the lower layer and the flame painted on the upper layer, demonstrating the use of the multi plane animation camera. United States; signed by Jones and stamped with a seal of authenticity on the front, although these marks have mostly slipped below the matting. Dedicated "To Lynn, Best Regards- Chuck Jones," titled and numbered "JC 2349" on the back. Dimensions: 17" L x 19-1/2" W including frame, image area is 9-1/4" L x 12" W.
Condition
Good overall; the cellophane sheet with Mowgli's flame has slipped within the frame, lowering the flame in the composition; some lifting on the frame's veneer and light soiling to the panel protecting the cel.
