Description
The AEAA is extremely proud to present this next fine piece of vintage Fenton glass from the large & diverse 30+ year collection of Mr. Loren “Butch” Morse of Yukon, Oklahoma. This fine lot represents a lovely, only produced in 1940, Fenton giant Silver crest basket with the signature Nicked applied crystal handle (used pre 1960). Our gorgeous basket is one of the largest of the Silver crest line, measuring 9.5 x 8 x 10.5 inches tall and weighing 1# 11 oz. The handle is finished with a stylized Raspberry prunt of an unidentified finisher. This one of the most valuable of the Silver crest line. Research consulted: Fenton Art Glass Patterns 1939 to 1980 2nd Ed., AND Fenton Art Glass Colors 1939 to 1980 / both by Margaret & Kenn Whitmyer; Fenton Glass Compendium Volume 2, 1970 to 1985, AND Fenton Glass Rarities 1940 to 1985, / all by John Walk. xxxxxxxxxxxxx. The widely sold plain Fenton Silver Crest line replaced the Crystal Crest in 1942. In 1943, major production commenced with many items surviving until ca. 1949, with new styles introduced between 1946 & 1949, and lasting between 1952 and the 1970s. Variations to the plain Silver Crest appeared with the hand painted Apple Blossom decoration in July 1969, only produced until December 1970. The Silver Crest w/ Yellow Rose decoration likewise, was only produced from July 1969 to December 1970. The Violets in the Snow pattern was universally acclaimed and sold from 1968 all the way until ca. 1981! The smallest and highly collectible Silver Crest line was finished in the classic Spanish Lace relief exterior pattern. First introduced in 1962 with the 11 inch footed cake plate, the line only ever produced (12) separate forms, with new forms introduced in 1965, 1968, 1973, 1975 & 1976. Virtually all the forms (excepting the #3508 SC footed Shaker retired in 1970) survived until ca. 1980-1982. xxxxxxxxxxxxx. Mr. Loren Morse was a loving family man, and also a well-known and respected member of the Vaseline Glass collecting community. His untimely passing a year ago was a blow to everyone, and we have very humbly accepted the commission to place his treasures in good homes. The Morse family gratefully appreciates your participation in this Estate sale, and wishes you all safe & prosperous Thanksgiving + Christmas seasons.
