Description
The AEAA is extremely proud to present this next fine piece of vintage ca. 1985-2005 Gibson animal figurines / paperweights, from the large & diverse 30+ year collection of Mr. Loren (Butch) Morse of Yukon, Oklahoma. This fine lot represents the third of 3 special signed (1990s) Gibson Glass Topaz Iridized fish with fiery Opalescence and neat applied eyes. Each of our Gibson fish have slightly different skin details, and this next fish features a fantastic & realistic fish scale body. Our Gibson weighs 1# 4 oz., standing 8 x 2.5 x 5 inches tall, and is a must addition to any Vaseline collection. xxxxxxxxxxxxx. Gibson Glass of Milton W. Va., is one of the last of the great American hand blown glass houses – now known as Osburn Modern Glass co. With the regrettable demise of Hamon, Kanawha, Pilgrim, Rainbow, Viking and other houses, Gibson along with Blenko were 2 of the only remaining production glass houses (we do not include hand blown art glass studios). Charles Gibson started working with glass in the 1950s with different glass companies including Blenko, Indiana Glass and others. Gibson glass was opened in 1976 and closed one year later when Charles decided to Pastor full time. In 1985 Charles Gibson along with his son Phillip reopened Gibson glass, a small cottage industry glass shop in Milton, WV. He had previously worked at Blenko Glass, Biscoff Glass, and with Joe St. Clair Glass prior to starting his own shop. His specialties were paperweights, carnival glass and a line of fancy marbles. He also made some very nice Vaseline glass with heavy opalescence. They made limited edition cruets, ladys spittoons and perfume bottles (usually dated). Gibson also made the first convention piece for the VGCI (Vaseline Glass Club Inc.) and it was the first 'marked' piece the club had made, constituting a bulbous vase made into a spittoon shape. The factory closed in 2005, due to the failing health of Mr. Gibson, but the creative output had been such that the Osburn Modern Glass Co. was started in 2006 when Dave Osburn purchased the Gibson Glass Factory. Dave had also previously worked for Blenko Glass Company, and had 33 years of experience as a glass blower and designer. Osburn Modern Glass expanded their lines to include more than 100 items to choose from, including vases, baskets, bowls, pitchers, creamers, jugs, tumblers, mugs, glasses, decanters, ornaments, animals, paperweights and figurines. xxxxxxxxxxxxx. Mr. Loren Morse was a loving family man, and also a well-known and respected member of the Vaseline Glass collecting community. His untimely passing a year ago was a blow to everyone, and we have very humbly accepted the commission to place his treasures in good homes. The Morse family gratefully appreciates your participation in this Estate sale, and wishes you all safe & prosperous Thanksgiving + Christmas seasons.
