Description
We are pleased to offer this five piece lot of quirky and fun Vintage Enamel Jewelry including a Reversible Lucite Hex Pendant on chain and four pairs of colorful Figural earrings. The Hex Pendant Necklace is an unsigned Frederick Hoffman that would have been sold in a souvenir marked box. This Reversible PA Dutch Pendant hangs on a silver link chain and features traditional designs in bright enamel with a hard convex Lucite casing. It would have been sold in gift shops in rural Lancaster County Pennsylvania circa 1960s-70s. It has light wear on the pendant, the silver tone chain is in good condition. We have paired this unusual symbolic pendant with a set of FOUR Cloisonne Figural Earrings, all pierced dangly earrings, fun and whimsical. These are unsigned, all appear to be gold plated and include a large colorful Unicorn, Perky Parrots, Brown and gold toned Lion with red nose and red neck scarf, and Perky Penguins with Bowties and a big red Heart in hand. All of the earrings are wire loops for pierced ears. This cheerful, fun and whimsical jewelry lot is yours for a single bid, offered at no reserve. ... ***** Weight : 2.75 oz Measurements: pendant approx 13 inches long, 2 inches diameter ***** HISTORY: Hex signs are a form of Pennsylvania Dutch folk art, related to fraktur, found in the Fancy Dutch tradition in Pennsylvania Dutch Country.[1] Barn paintings, usually in the form of "stars in circles," grew out of the fraktur and folk art traditions about 1850 when barns first started to be painted in the area. By the 1940s commercialized hex signs, aimed at the tourist market, became popular and these often include stars, compass roses, stylized birds known as distelfinks, hearts, tulips, or a tree of life. Distelfinks are considered to bring good luck by the Pennsylvania Dutch, much like the unicorn does for some.Other shapes include hearts for love, the eagle for courage and strength, doves for friendship, crescent moons for the four seasons, rosettes for good luck, stars for protection, tulips for faith, hope and charity, wheat for abundance and scallops for smooth sailing in life.
