Description

An extremely rare Minton Majolica lily cup and saucer c.1875, 3.5”h, marks, the cup modeled with overlapping green leaves, lily pads, and blossoms with green stem handle and turquoise interior. The saucer with green leaves, lily pad, blossoms, and a turquoise centre. This ‘water lily’ design in a cup and saucer, or any tea ware, was previously unknown to the cataloguer and we assume that as there is a tea cup and saucer that a tea set must have been produced, however no examples are known to us. The water lily design was also produced in tureens. See ‘Majolica Auctions’ Lot 794, 3.27.10
