Description
A NEOCLASSICAL STYLE GILT AND PATINATED BRONZE BLACK MARBLE MODEL OF A BACCHANALIAN TEMPLE, EARLY 20TH CENTURY, the domed cupola centering a stylized acanthus finial, above a continuous narrative frieze cast in shallow relief and depicting the Triumph of Alexander the Great, held aloft by Corinthian fluted columns enclosing the dancing figure of a classically robed youth playing the cymbals, on a stepped circular base and conforming plinth.NOTE: This model of a "temple" might very well have existed and similar examples can still be found in various estate gardens throughout the world. The 18th Century French architect Richard Mique designed a marble "Temple of Love" for Queen Marie-Antoinette in the parks of the Palace of Versailles. Height: 15 1/4" Diameter: 6"
