Description
Ivory. China, late 19th cent.
Judging by the style and the fact that the dragon is four-clawed, this carving should be a Chinese work. It shows the scally and severely twisted body of the dragon standing on a rock (it could also be a cloud or wave), in one paw he is holding the magical pearl up with his claws. The large head of the dragon is emphasized, the eyes are black and inlaid. The notation "Tomotada" on the underside.
LENGTH 6,8 CM
From a Hungarian private collection
