Yellow bronze. China-Indonesia, 19th to 20th cent.
Characterful tripod-vessel, which was acquired in 1967 in an Indonesian temple, however, is a Chinese work. The legs are the paws of a predator. On the walls, vines with lotus leaves and two curved handles with rings attached. Around the neck, a border in the style of the Chinese Leiwen-meander. The domed cover with a tall mortise and at the uppermost point, a fischdragon with wide-open mouth, wings and a fish-tail. The underside of the vessel holds three large stylized Chinese characters, FU – Shou – Lu褔 壽 祿, luck – long life – prosperity. The last character Lu means luck as well as (high) official’s salary. Blackened patina.
