Description
Satsuma-ceramic with gilding. Japan, Meiji-period (1868 – 1912)
Very well-crafted vase with fine painting in the so-called brocade-style, with rich details in the decorative pattern-fields. In the two large pictorial reserves next to a fence are two red botan-flowers (peonies), as well as three Chinese scholars under a pine tree, depicted in a garden. They are wearing floor-length, lushly decorated garments. On the underside bearing a red mark is the signature of the artist, KO-ICHI. Flawless condition.
