Description
Netsuke, wood. Japan, 19th cent.
Very lively work; both of the almost naked Sumo are in crouched stance and clutching each other. Their widespread legs stand on the outermost rim of the oval platform bearing a crab-pattern on top and a smooth underside. There is the signature KIN-ICHI and a horn-platted central chord hole. Beautiful wood colour or colouring and patina, very good condition.
