Description
A nice Greek black-ware ceramic lamp, c. 5th Century BC, the black glaze offset by red ochre slip. The lamp is wheelmade, the shallow body flat base and concave underneath. Short rounded nozzle and single handle at back. Antique inked Label on Underside Reads 'From Mr. Mainwaring's Collection', Presumably From Colston Hall, Lincoln.' L: 5 in (12.7 cm). Intact, light wear to slip, few minor chips. Ex Collection of Professor P.M.S. Jones, England.
