Description
one of 350 copies, 11 bookplates on 10 plates, original printed cream wrappers sewn with red silk ribbon, very lightly browned and tips of corners creased, upper wrapper torn along edge of ribbon at inner margin where poorly opened, spine torn at foot, loose in original cloth-backed boards with red silk ties (frayed), bookplate of D.H.Frank, upper outer corners rubbed, [F & R A2(b)], 12mo, Hackbridge, At the Sign of the Rose, 1900. Craig had been persuaded to try woodcuts by his friends William Nicholson and James Pryde. Nicholson had suggested taking a photograph of a subject with strong light and shadow, tracing it onto a block and cutting out the highlights. This technique enabled him to develop his style.
