19th century AD. A bulbous lacquered vase with discoid base, flared neck and chamfered rim decorated with hand-painted scenes on a black background in three discoid panels: one showing a congress of robed males approaching a figure seated on a cushion, against an arcade; one showing a group of robed males kneeling, the central figure with a hookah; one showing a group of robed males, four kneeling before a figure on a chair, attendants to the rear; each panel with encircling band of calligraphic text; the field decorated with scenes of tigers preying on other animals in long grass. 1.2 kg, 35 cm (13 3/4").
