Description
late 18th century. silver “moon” or “shell” trade good worn by Native Americans. engraved with two buttons, a wave border, a tulip, and two opposing triangles with four diamonds, representing the upper and underworld respectively. Dia. 3 ¾” Note: Silver shell gorget closely resembles a piece circa 1760 found in Tugabachee, Alabama and now in the collection of the Alabama Department of Archives and History.
Condition
Good overall condition. Silver is likely Coin. Small dents to surface and slight abrasions consistent with age. This peace was purchased from the Quattlebaum family in Charleston South Carolina in the mid 1980s.
