Item Details

Description

This is a Joslyn Fire Arms Co Stonington Conn. breech loading Saddle Ring Carbine. The piece is a U.S. Model 1862 from the Civil War era. The early firearm has a rifled barrel and percussion action with breech single shot load. The side plate is clearly marked and the top of the breech is also marked Joslyn, but does show wear. The hammer and breech load both work and the carbine has a 20" smooth barrel, with wood stock, and brass trigger guard and butt plate. Side of the stock is carved, "RC" on one side and "BWH" on the other. RARE early Americana firearm. Exact caliber is believed to be .52 (breech opening is 6/16-7/16 opening and barrel end has a 9/16" opening) Has three tip up sights.
