Tom Wesselmann (American, 1931 - 2004). "Lulu". Color offset lithograph. 1984. Signed with the initials in black marker, lower right; signed and dated in the plate. Edition unknown. Very light cream wove paper. Full margins. Fine impression. Good condition. Generally, posters by Wesselmann are uncommon and don't often come up at auction. This particular poster is very scarce. No auction records located. The poster's image and name are the same as the editioned silkscreen of 1982, which was included in the Metropolitan Opera Portfolio. Co-published by Circle Fine Art Corporation and the Metropolitan Opera. Lulu (written mostly in 1934, premiered incomplete in 1937) is an opera by the composer Alban Berg. The libretto was adapted by Berg himself from Frank Wedekind's plays Erdgeist (Earth Spirit, 1895) and Die Büchse der Pandora (Pandora's Box, 1904).
