Giacomo Balla (Italian, 1871-1958). "Vortice Futurista Blu II". Original color pencil drawing. c1910s, probably 1914-1915. Signed in pencil, lower right. Cream laid watermarked paper. Very good condition. Provenance: Estate of a private collector, Rome. Balla was a highly important and accomplished artist. In his early 30's he taught Divisionist techniques to Umberto Boccioni and Gino Severini. Influenced by Filippo Tommaso Marinetti, Balla adopted the Futurism style, creating a pictorial depiction of light, movement, and speed. He was signatory to the Futurist Manifesto in 1910, and began designing and painting Futurist furniture, also creating Futurist "anti-neutral" clothing. Overall size: 5 3/4 x 9 in. (146 x 229 mm).
