One electronically tested 14KT white gold ladies cast blue topaz and diamond ring. Condition is new, good workmanship. The featured blue topaz is set within a diamond bezel supported by tapering shoulders, completed by a two and one-half millimeter wide band. Identified with markings of "14K". Containing: One prong set oval mixed cut natural blue topaz, measuring 19.50 x 14.50 x 9.95mm, 5%. bulge factor, approximate weight of 21.45ct., clarity is eye clean, type I, medium dark, very slightly grayish, very slightly greenish blue color, (GIA vslgB 6/3), cut is good. Transmitting light with no distortion, transparent. Graded in the setting. A deposit of a thin layer has been applied to the topaz to produce the intense color effect. The process utilizes a very high temperature treatment, diffusion of ions into the topaz, plus in some cases neutron bombardment has been used to create the color center. Diffusion processes causes the added ions to become part of the crystal surface with no distinct boundary. Do not put a gem treated in this manner into an ultrasonic cleaner.
