This captivating American oil painting on canvas was most likely created in the late 1880's. The stretchers have a patent date of 1885, and the style of painting is in keeping with the academic painters of that period who were transitioning from the somber pallet of the Tonalists to the the new colors of the Impressionists. The strong composition and deft brush work show that the artist was trained and professional. Unfortunately, he or she did not sign the work. Painting size: 18" x 18" Frame size: approx. 21" x 21" The painting was in generally good condition when we acquired it, but it needed to be cleaned and had a few small holes. The painting is now in great shape. It has been lined, retouched and coated with non-yellowing varnish. The painting has been installed back into the frame it came in, which is a newer custom-made wooden frame. You may consider framing it differently to make it more impressive, but it is ready to display. All work was performed in our studio.
