This evocative American oil painting on canvas was most likely created in the late 1880's. The stretchers have a patent date of 1885, and the style of painting is in keeping with the academic painters of that period. The strong composition and deft brush work show that the artist was trained and professional. Unfortunately, he or she did not sign the work. Painting size: 12.5" x 18.5" Frame size: approx. 16" x 22" The painting was in generally good condition when we acquired it, but it needed to be cleaned. We removed the dirt and the old varnish, and coated the painting with non-yellowing gloss varnish. (See the photos- the little white specks are all reflections on the high points of the paint.)
