Description
This is an original early albumen photographic print from about 1870, showing a sunny view of the Temple of Serapide in Pozzuoli near Naples, Italy. The details are sharp and we can see formally dressed tourists walking among the ruins. It's mounted on heavy card stock, as was customary for photos of that era, and is identified by a caption on the negative. This view into the past is collectible, and when framed it will be a sophisticated addition to your home or office. Silver photographic prints from the albumen paper era (1855-1895) generally show some form of deterioration, or possess spots and blemishes of chemical origin that distinguish them as actual photographic prints. Most albumen prints are faded and yellowed to some degree, either overall or in localized areas. The print size is 7" x 9.5", the mount is 13" x 16" The image is in good condition, with normal signs of wear. The mount shows wear and a few tears in the card stock have been mended with archival tape on the back side. The damage does not affect the image at all. The card stock has cut, rounded corners.
