This is the first edition of the handbook about ‘history and geography, made for the youth and for the use by history enthusiasts’, written by the Benedictine Anselm Desing, who taught history and geography at the Benedictine monastery Ensdorf. He wrote some books and made several maps for the use in class himself. After he had been teaching in Freising, he earned a degree in philosophy in Salzburg and began to hold lectures in poetry at the local Benedictine university. After his criticism of Scholasticism had raised controversies he had to abdicate professorship, however, he did not abandon his activities in education in general.
