Description
2nd-3rd century AD. A fragment of moulded jar or vase with head of Demeter at the neck, funicular mouth above with thickened rim, section of the vessel's wall and circular hole to the rear of the head; the goddess shown with densely curled hair, browband and collar; mounted on a custom-made stand. 799 grams, 30cm including stand (11 3/4"). Property of a West London gentleman; acquired between 1980-2010. Accompanied by a thermoluminescence analysis certificate, no. 0314-OA-83R-6 issued by CIRAM SARL, Pessac, France; age given as 2070 BP ±160 years.
