1st-3rd century AD. A fragment of marble facing with relief carving of a stylised eagle, crescent wing to the sides, head in profile left with pellet eye; Eastern Empire workmanship. 534 grams, 11cm (4 1/4"). Property of a Surrey collector; acquired in the early 1970s.
