Morgan (1810-1896), a Quincy, IL, merchant, served in the militia against the Mormons and was a captain in the Mexican War. He was appointed a lieutenant colonel of the 10th Illinois in 1861 and was promoted to brigadier general in July 1862. He commanded a division during the March to the Sea and the Carolina campaign. After the war, Morgan continued his career as a businessman.
