EDDIE ADAMS, GENERAL NGUYEN NGOC LOAN EXECUTING VIET CONG PRISONER. 6 ½ x 8- inch ferrotyped gelatin silver print of this iconic image for which Adams won the 1969 Pulitzer Prize. This print has been copied from a print that has been retouched, as is often the case with early press prints. The verso has two torn text labels, marks for cropping, and various date stamps that show when this print was used for publication. Among the date stamps is one for 13 February 1968—this is very soon after the February 1st date when the event took place. There are cropping marks on the verso that show that in one of the uses only the part of the image that shows the heads and the gun was used. That and the heav retouching acknowledge that a basic image with little context or detail would be sufficient to illustrate the gist of the shocking event. Slight handling creases.
