The HG-Werkstätten from Marwitz in Brandenburg are best-known for the manufacture of artisanal crafted tableware and sophisticated architectural ceramics

This pretty small mocha service is a work by the German ceramic artist Hedwig Bollhagen. The pieces are inside and outside glazed in black. Characteristic of the design are the vertically attached stab handles of mocha pot, cream jar and sugar bowl.
The mocha service for 4 people is comprised of the following 11 pieces:
1 mocha pot with lid
1 cream jar
1 sugar bowl
4 demitasses, incl. 4 saucers
The service is underneath partly marked with artist’s signet ‘HB’ (ligated) and form number ‘561’. The pieces are in good condition with hardly any traces of use. The mocha pot is 17 cm in height incl. the lid.
Hedwig Bollhagen (1907-2001)
Hedwig Bollhagen visited the Keramische Fachschule Höhr-Grenzhausen. She went to the Hamelner Töpferei in 1926. The years at the Steingut- und Fayencefabrik Velten-Vordamm followed from 1927 until 1930. She worked for the Staatliche Majolikamanufaktur Karlsruhe as well as the Rosenthal-Betriebe in Neustadt close to Coburg in 1931. She joined the Werkstatt Wilhelm Kagel in Garmisch-Partenkirchen and also worked for Tilly Prill-Schloemann in Berlin in 1932. The foundation of the HB-Werkstätten für Keramik in Marwitz close to Berlin came in 1934. The company was nationalized in 1972 and re-privatized in 1992. (tm)
