The service for the Palace of the Republic in the GDR was manufactured between 1977 and 1990 by the VEB Henneberg Porzellan in Ilmeanu. The porcelain is decorated with yellow, blue or green rim and the monogram ‘PdR’.
The coffee service of 476 pieces for approximately 154 people contains:
8 coffee pot, yellow, height 18 cm
121 coffee cups, yellow, incl. 233 saucers
15 coffee cups, blue, Incl. 81 saucers, blue
18 coffee cups, green
All pieces except for one of the blue saucers bear the base mark ‘Henneberg’ or ‘KAHLA’ and ‘Made in GDR’. The coffee service shows usual signs of use and wear, such as minor chips. One saucer is broken and repaired.
VEB Henneberg-Porzellan Ilmenau (est. 1777)
The porcelain manufactory was founded in Ilmenau, Thuringia, in 1777. All porcelain manufactories in Ilmenau were consolidated as the Neue Porzellanwerk Ilmenau in 1973. There were more than 3.000 employees in 1980. The production was discontinued entirely in 2002 and the production of porcelain was recommenced with approximately 50 employees in a small part of the factory some time later.
