Additional Information & Circa: Set of four 'Cadeira de Bracos Tiao' rosewood arm chairs by Sergio Rodrigues. Provenance: Acquired from the original owner, Rio de Janeiro | Private Collection, Palm Beach, Florida. Reference: Sergio Rodrigues, Soraia Cals, pg. 88. Sergio Rodrigues (1927-2014), a pioneer of Brazilian Modern design who founded the company Oca in Rio de Janeiro in 1956, utilized the finest of indigenous materials and craftsmanship to create his innovative works. After architects Oscar Niemeyer and Lucio Costa populated their buildings in the new capital city of Brasilia with Rodrigues’ furniture later in that decade, international recognition followed. He won first prize at the IVth Concorso Internazionale del Mobile in 1961, and his work is included in the permanent collection of the Museum of Modern Art and many others.
