General Hardwicke spent nearly four decades in service in India, the illustrations in the present work are chiefly engraved from drawings made on the spot and from living specimens. This volume includes plates of small mammals, birds of prey, pheasants, quail, heron, and other birds, turtles, lizards, snakes and other reptiles, as well as native fish and sea life.
