Golda Meir, future Prime Minister of Isreal, conveys her thoughts at tension ramps up between Egypt and Israel after Gamal Abdel Nasser seized power in 1954: "...We spent a wonderful evening with friends in the shade of green trees, whose leaves are the price of the Kibbutz. So I thought to myself if in truth the Egyptian dictator will carry out his threats and something by us will be ruined. Perhaps in the Negev and on the Rebibim road itself the Egyptian army will create its road into Israel when it looks to destroy and devastate..."
