Carl Hagenauer, founder of the Hagenauer workshop has designed this cassette in 1925. He was socially very active and cultivated intensive contact with the artists of his time. These included the artists of the Wiener Werkstätte such as Dagobert Peche and Michael Powolny whose works probably inspired Carl Hagenauer in the design of this cassette.
The box has the early manufacturer’s mark 'HAGENAUER WIEN' which has been used until 1927. It is 8 cm high and measures 13.5 x 10.7 cm. It is in good condition with some signs of age and wear like a small dent.
Hagenauer Werkstätte
The Hagenauer Werkstätte were founded in Vienna in 1898 by the father of Franz Hagenauer, Carl Hagenauer (1871-1928). Metal goods in the strict Viennese Secession style were the most successful product of the company which were represented in many exhibitions and won numerous awards. The designs however, decided against any ornamentation, to focus more on the function of the object. The Werkstätte produced among others figures designed by Josef Hoffmann and Otto Prutscher, as well as everyday items such as corkscrews, bookends and inkwells. All designs feature the outstanding shape and perfect craftsmanship of the objects. For this type of arts and crafts Hagenauer Werkstätte was the only one worldwide. Even if the sculptures are partly almost 100 years old, most of them look still modern.
